Our house is pretty old, and it was formerly a pig slaughter house. When we renovated it when found six doors, no windows aside from the ones we have. It’s a small, one floor house with an unfinished basement. I have grown up in the house, and I’ve had my share of weird ass shit happen. Typically your normal ghosty business: items misplaced, strange noises, voices, doors opening, etc. Our basement was never the creepy part though, it was the hallway leading to my bedroom. I hate that fucking hallway. It’s a straight shot, teen feet deep from the kitchen, I suppose. Nothing to bat an eye at. But I’ve always been terrified of it.

I was probably twelve or thirteen, still in middle school. At the time I had a desktop computer that I was ALWAYS on. I spent hours on it, constantly. I was up until four on it, then got up at seven for school, etc. One night I noticed I kept hearing weird noises in my hallway. Like stomping, I guess, but not loud. My door handle jiggled a bit, but nothing too creepy ( for me, anywho ). I assumed it was my dad or something. After a while I had to pee so I got up and opened the door, silence. Okay, cool. Whatever. I flipped on the hall light and went to the bathroom. After I was done I opened the door and looked into the kitchen. Our kitchen is really small with a island-table in the middle of it. Behind that I saw a figure there. I thought maybe it was my mom crouched down picking something up, so without thinking I call out to her.

No answer. Now I’m a little on edge, so I say ‘Mom?’ again a little louder. The figure shifted and came into the light of our security light shining through the window. It wasn’t my mom. It was a figure on all fours. His elbows were bent backwards, and his legs looks backwards too. He didn’t have hands, but feet. He didn’t have a face that I can remember, I just see it as a blur in my mind’s eye. I was terrified, but I was stuck. I couldn’t move. He moved towards me slowly and suddenly there was this noise to my left. Before I could turn to look at it I was pushed back into the bathroom and the door slammed shut. Instantly I heard my parents door open and I jumped out of the bathroom. Every single light was on in our house, including the basement and garage.

I’ve never been able to explain it. I’ve tried to pull it off as too much caffeine, not enough sleep. Could a power surge have turned on the lights? But… The flashlights were on too. That was the strange part. My dad, a huge skeptic, refuses to talk about it and blames it on me as a prank.

Another weird happening was just a month ago I was home from college and I had JUST gone to bed. I instantly heard some weird noises and I muted my TV. Suddenly my door slammed, like something had lunged against it. I didn’t go outside at all that night, nor did I sleep. In the morning I found a huge scratch on it. We do have a dog, but I give you my word that that scratch was not there before that night. Our dog knows better than to do that. She has never jumped up on a door before.

PIC – Of the scratches that I took and sent to my friend the morning it happened. I talked to my mom about it, and she said she has no idea what could have done that. We tried to think of a time we might have scratched it while carrying the vacuum or something, but nothing came up. My mom has mentioned seeing some things, but not nearly what I have experienced. She thinks it’s just the old house playing tricks… But I don’t think that’s it at all.

“Does your mother know you are up this late?”

October 3, 2011

This one needs a little backstory – when I was about 14 or 15 (I’m 20 now), I was living with my grandparents, my mum, younger sister and great grandmother. I would stay up later than everyone else on weekends and holidays watching TV while sitting on the floor of the lounge room. From where I was sitting I could see up the hallway the first door in this hallway belonged to my great-grandmother.

About once every month or so she would walk out of her room, look at me and chastise me for being up so late, this was usually around 11PM. A week after she died I sat in the lounge room, in my usual spot, watching TV late at night, when someone walked out of her bedroom. Since I knew no one was sleeping in that room I looked up and saw her staring at me from the hallway. She asked me “Does your mother know you are up this late?” before shuffling off to the bathroom. When I finally got up the nerve to go to my bedroom, I had to walk past her room and the bathroom to get there, the tap had been turned on (she always forgot to turn it off).

About a year later my older sister moved into that room with her boyfriend and aside from a few odd happenings they had no serious encounters until one night they left their lava lamp turned on. They bot awoke to a loud smash as the lava lamp hit the wall on the opposite side of the room. It had been yanked from the wall and thrown, we are certain of this because of the distance and the fact that the alarm clock and keys in front of the lamp had not moved at all.

My older sister moved from this room within a year and my younger sister moved into it. She placed posters on the wall and kept the room relatively clean. However, if I were to enter her room, with or without permission, once I left and closed the door her posters would get torn from the walls and her ornaments thrown to the ground. Needless to say I rarely entered that room afterwards.

2 years ago, just after I moved out, my older sister moved back into the house, but a different room as my younger sister still occupied that one, and placed her children in another room as well. Afew months into living there my nephew began telling tales of men who walk into his room and play with his toys, at first my sister thought nothing of it until my nephew would no longer play with his toys as “the bad men” played with them. She and her children then moved into the granny-flat behind the house and have had no problems since.

However my 2nd eldest sister moved into this house around the time my other sister moved into the granny flat. This sister also stayed in a different room, she stayed in what used to be a sunroom but had been converted to a large bedroom. She turn on her pedestal fan each night to cool herself down and woke night after night to find it turned off and moved to the other side of the room. She believed it was her husband and told him to stop, however this continued. One night she awoke and found the an turned off and just as she rolled over to wake her husband and tell him off for turning off the fan it began to slide accross the floor, she stared at it and saw no one beside it, she checked to make sure her husband was in fact beside her in the bed, and of course he was. She turned on the lamp beside her and the sliding stopped.

I know you only asked for one story but I thought I would share just a few of the paranormal occurances I have experienced. I aplogise for the mass amount of text but the things listed here barely even scratch the surface of the things experienced by myself and my sisters not only in that house but in others as well.

“I wonder if the power’s out?”

October 3, 2011

Growing up, I used to spend the night at a house that was (in my opinion) haunted. My friend lived there with her family, and they all thought nothing of the sinks turning themselves on and off at night, sporadically. Not a drip mind you, but a fucking full-on sink for 3 seconds and then nothing. It would wake me up every time and scare the shit out of me. Other haunted shit in this house:

  • The tv turned itself on sometimes, and changed channels by itself. One time we laid in the bed upstairs, talking, and the tv turned on and started slowly flipping through different channels of static.
  • My friend’s bedroom was the bonus room, so she had the door to the attic in her ceiling. If we stayed up talking too late, we would hear warped wood start creaking back and forth across the door. SO scary, when you’re all of 14 years old.
  • WORST THING. This was the thing that made me officially stop going over to her house. One time the whole family packed up and went to Sam’s club to go shopping, and as a bored 14 year old I came with them. The mom locked up the house as usual, we shopped for 30 min tops, and came home. When her mom went inside, she tried flipping on the lights. Didn’t work. She said “I wonder if the power’s out?” and tried other lamps. Nothing. After a swift check of the house, it was discovered that all the light bulbs in the house had been moved to the four corners of the living room. I don’t know why, but I remember crying when we discovered them. For some reason it was deeply scary for me.

somewhere along the road, night became daylight, like a light switch was turned on.

September 5, 2011

when i was a kid (around 1980) we were driving back from a weekend of boating at lake berryessa. we had come out of the windy road part and were driving through napa on the way back home at night. i mention it because you can totally see the stars out there, no city lights. somewhere along the rd, night became daylight, like a light switch was turned on. my dad pulled over just as you would when cop pulls you over and then we all got out of the car and stood alongside the road. above us was a very large round object with lights on it. it blocked out the entire night sky. there was no way of telling the size or how high up it was, but it blocked all the stars above a 30 degree angle or so.. it hovered there for about 30 seconds, made no sound, no air disturbance, but rotated very slowly.

in an instant it went from blocking the night sky to being the size of a quarter up and to the right for a split second, then it shot off like a shooting star in reverse, literally scratching the night sky.

our gaze went from looking up, to looking at each other, and then beyond each other to notice that more cars had pulled over staggered out in front and behind us. they were also standing outside their cars. at that moment, we got scared. not before, not during, but only when you saw that other people witnessed what we had just seen.

everyone gets in their car and drives off. my dad tells us not to talk about it, people won’t believe you, best to just forget it happened.

anyways, i’m not into ufo’s and if you told me the same story, i’d be a skeptic.

the coolest part, it’s possible to move like that.

no shit

July 31, 2011

Feel free to mock me, but this really happened about a month ago. I always wanted to believe in spirits/afterlife, that kind of thing, but logically I just couldn’t. After this happened, I changed my mind.

Back story, I met the hub through mutual friends, said mutual friends grew up with him and are now married. The guy, Jason, has lived in the same house since he was little, he and his wife bought it from his mother when they got married. Long history of issues with the house, they even had a preacher come in and bless it. Since the two of them have moved in, there have been a few weird things, but nothing major.

So a few weeks ago we went down there to see them, and spent the night. After it got late and everyone else was in bed, I wanted my PJs, so I went outside to get them from the car. Walking across the deck, I felt something push me from behind, and I fell down the steps. They have a huge boxer who’s really bad about jumping, so I thought it was him.

Then I looked up and saw this bright white light, a circle. I thought I’d hit my head or something. so I stood up, and it was still there, about head high, sort of pulsating. I turned around to go back to the house, then I turned back, still there. like it was watching me. Finally I said “I’m sorry if you’re mad, but this isn’t your house anymore. the people who live here are really nice and will take care of it, but you need to leave.” and it got brighter for a second, then slowly faded away.
There were no lights on, nobody lives near there, no headlights, etc. it was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. I kind of feel bad now, because I’m not sure that what pushed me and the light were the same thing. I wasn’t afraid of the light at all.

The next morning the hub and I got up, and he took me to the doctor. Broken wrist. When I explained to him what happened, and later when I explained it to my friends who own the house, turns out at some point, all of them had seen the light I described. My husband and the other guy had seen it in the house when they were teenagers, and the wife had seen it in the back field, a couple of weeks earlier.

oh, and same house, a few months before, the hub and i spent the night. usually we sleep on the couch, but for some reason we were in their spare room. I had horrible, very vivid nightmares about being raped the whole night. when i woke up at six, i just got up and went downstairs and cleaned up, i was too freaked out to go back to sleep.

when i told my friends why i was up so early, the guy went pale. apparently his high school girlfriend had spent the night in the room years before and had the same dreams, and would never go back in that room.

Lock The Door

July 25, 2011

Totally true story:

Years ago, back when my wife and I were just dating, I had an experience that still gives me chills. I was living in my parents’ basement for a short stretch. It was finished with bedrooms, bathroom, living room, etc. Our families were both conservative, so even though she was allowed to “spend the night with me,” we played by the rules; she slept in my bed in my bedroom and I crashed on the couch. The rest of this story begins with a dream I had. Where the dream ended (or if it was even a dream at all), I still don’t know. It’s difficult to tell because it was one of those dreams where you’re in the same place and wearing the same clothes as the actual place where you are in reality.

So in the dream (or reality), I’m lying on the couch sleeping, when I am suddenly awakened by loud thumps. It was as though someone were pounding heavy fists into a door or wall. The sound was in the distance at first, but steadily drew closer. Eventually, I recognized that the sound was upstairs and was heading downstairs. About that time, the stairwell was awash with a bright light. I sensed a being of some kind walking down the stairs. The thumping grew louder.

The being crossed from the stairwell directly to my bedroom (where my future wife was sleeping). The being peered into the room, then turned and walked toward me on the couch.

It was within these next 5 seconds or so that the difference between reality and dream merged.

The being stood over me with a radiance of blinding light. I saw no facial features – just light – but it was evidently humanoid. I was terrified of it. I was in my mid-20s and I swear I have never been so scared before or since. Then the being spoke to me in a voice that resembled a female, but wasn’t quite human: “You left the door unlocked. You need to lock the door.” That is all it said.

The being then started to dissipate in front of me and slowly float to the other corner of the room. I am positive that I was totally awake when I saw the last remnants of its light fade into nothing. Literally, there was no “waking up” feeling after I witnessed this.

For roughly 30 seconds, I lay suspended in fear. A powerful notion in my head battled with that fear and eventually overpowered the fear. It said to me: what you saw was real. You were given a warning and you need to act right now. My courage finally kicked in and I got up.

My first instinct was to check on my (future) wife. I walked into that bedroom and found her in a most curious position: she had the blankets pulled up over her face. She is not prone to doing this as I have found out in the years we’ve been married. When I saw her like that, I immediately assumed she had subconsciously shielded herself from the blinding light of the being.

My next step was to climb the stairs and check on the back door (which was my assumption for what the being was referring to, considering the fact it was the way we had entered the house for the evening). I climbed the stairs slowly. When I got near the top, I reached out my hand and felt for the door knob. The door was unlocked. It was customary to lock the door, so I was pretty freaked out that it wasn’t locked. I quickly locked it and then proceeded to search the rest of the house to make sure someone hadn’t come in. I checked the clock in the kitchen. It was just after 3 a.m.

After searching the house and finding nothing awry, I returned to bed.

The next morning, we were all eating breakfast and I started to recount the story. My mom grew pale once I got to the thumping noise part. She said that she was awakened a little after 3am and heard loud banging noises near the house. Once I got toward the end of the story, my step-dad began to freak out a little. He told me how he had left to get his newspaper and coffee in the morning and how the door that led from the garage out into the backyard was swinging wide open when he got out there. We NEVER leave that door open. Someone had obviously opened it and entered our garage.

So was someone in the garage that night? Was the banging noise their attempt to get into the house? Would they have come into the house with evil intent had I not locked the door right before they got there? Had this being of light been sent to warn me? Was it a ghost? An angel? I don’t know for sure, but I do know beyond doubt that the events were all connected, that I wasn’t dreaming (at least not the whole time), and that I had some kind of supernatural experience. I’m just glad that the being who visited me was benign.

July 24, 2011

My wife’s old apartment was haunted. It was an old Victorian house that had been divided up into 4 apartments. We had so many weird things that happened there it would take a couple of pages to list them all. Mostly, it was things disappearing and reappearing somewhere else. We actually saw the thing in the kitchen on a Sunday afternoon. We were getting ready for dinner and this white glowing sphere just appeared between us. It stayed there for maybe 2 seconds and poof, gone. For about 2 months, about three times a week, we would hear this loud knock on the entryway door. I would open the door and there would be no one there. I just happened to be standing by the door once when this happened, I snatched the door open really fast…nothing.
We had an old, busted black and white TV that we used as a nightlight. On night we were lying in bed talking and this eerie, muffled voice starts coming out of the TV. I reached over to see if the volume knob had been turned up, but it was completely off. In fact, I couldn’t remember the last time it had made a sound with the volume up.
It was kinda cool actually, I never felt scared, although it freaked the cats out a couple of times. We moved into our current house and nothing ghostly has ever happened.
