She’d tell them it was “Ellen’s Room.”

June 7, 2011

When the fiddle player in our band first moved to town, he & his wife & 2 year old daughter rented a house. For the first few weeks his daughter wouldn’t sleep in her room. She’d tell them it was “Ellen’s Room.” (we’ll call her Ellen because I don’t remember the right name)

They asked the landlord about “Ellen,” and it was the name of the previous tenant, an elderly woman who had passed away in the house.

They did a little mock-exorcism, marching around banging on pots and pans and asking Ellen to go on, and everything was cool after that. Amazing what kids can be tuned into because they don’t “know better” yet.

/my daughter’s best friend, at age 2 1/2, told her parents that her Great Gramma came by to say goodbye the night she died… so there’s that, too.
